Toshiba readies World’s Smartest 2160p LED TV- Complete with Cell Processor

I really wish I had pictures of this thing, but I think I can describe it in words well enough to get the drool flowing at a good pace.

Toshiba confirms they’re releasing what I can only describe as a “ginormous, fantastic, completely over-the-top” flagship LED TV model very, very soon.

Dubbed the “Cell Regza”, the TV boasts a resolution 3x higher than that of current 1080p models, delivering unparalleled 3840 x 2160 resolution.

Let the eye bleeding commence.

But wait, there’s more!  Featuring a 1TB storage system built right into the set, you’ll reportedly be able to record up to 6 HD channels all at the same time.

The engine running all this overly-HD goodness is the Cell processor, made famous by the Sony Playstation 3 and developed by IBM, Sony, and Toshiba. Toshiba now controls the manufacturing of the processor and apparently has much bigger uses for the Cell than just powering a gaming system.

Sadly, you can’t run out to your local Best Buy and check this beast out.  The TV is scheduled to go on sale in Japan by December 2009 and will be shown at the 2010 CES, so get your press passes now for January.

Or, just start saving up your shekels to pick up one when they go on sale here in the States.  According to Toshiba, they will be “fairly expensive.”
