Who will be the Next Internet Millionaire?

I can’t wait.  We’re less than a week away from one of the most significant events in the history of new media.  Podcasting, video blogging, online media and internet marketing are about to collide in a massive fireball with mainstream media.

Hold onto your hats, ladies and gentlemen, there’s about to be a whole other world of opportunity available to all of us.

Come August 15th, old media will begin to really shake in its boots thanks to The Next Internet Millionaire.

What?  You haven’t heard about it?

Hmm….

Let me give you the rundown…

Back in late 2006, Joel Comm and Eric Holmlund got this idea for a reality TV show.  The only catch was that it wouldn’t be on TV.  It’s going to be on your computer.  They would gather up 12 contestants and bring them all to Colorado to learn with some of the top names in the business of making money online.  Think "The Apprentice" for internet marketers.

This idea has become "The Next Internet Millionaire".  If you haven’t seen the teaser yet, I encourage you to head over and take a glimpse at the extremely high production values that Joel and his team are using.  It looks fantastic.

I had the chance to hear about this project before it was launched publicly back at Big Seminar in April (See what happens when you attend seminars and conferences?  That’s another post altogether…)

Even at that point, I knew this was going to be something huge.  Earth-shattering even.

I’m normally not one to promote a bunch of hype.  There’s way too much of that going on in our business today as it is.  But this is much too big.

If you’re a producer of any form of new media (for me, this includes any type of content that you yourself create; blogs, podcasts, video podcasts, eBooks, reports, etc.) you need to pay attention to what is going on here.

And not just because of the content of the show.  I have met several of the people that Joel has brought in as instructors for The Next Internet Millionaire, and I can tell you that the content will be top-notch.

What you should really be watching is the production of the show.  Take a close look and see what they are doing to create a quality program that will catch the attention of people not currently watching or listening to new media.

This is more than just your average YouTube video shot with a 10 year old camcorder.  This is state-of-the-art.  Watch and learn.

I’m not saying that all of us can produce this type of content.  But we can strive for it.  Quality content is absolutely the basis for any project on the Internet.  You can have all the flash and glitz that you want, but if your content sucks your audience won’t stay around for very long.

But, add some glitz and glam to great content and what do you get?  A program that breaks through to the next level.

I’ll be watching The Next Internet Millionaire.  You should too.
