Mr. Wizard is gone and there’s a little less light in the world

For those of you that haven’t heard yet, Don “Mr. Wizard” Herbert has passed away.  And I’m feeling just a little bit down in the dumps about it.

I wasn’t around for the first iteration of the Mr. Wizard show, but I do remember growing up watching Mr. Wizard on Nickelodeon.

I loved the show.  I have this innate desire to know how everything works and Mr. Wizard was the guy who could provide many of the answers to my questions.

I was never brave enough to try out any of his experiments at home, and I’m pretty sure my parents are very thankful for that.  But I’ll never forget being completely and utterly silent for 30 minutes at a time as I watched to see what Mr. Wizard was going to blow up today.

So long, Mr. Wizard.  I know that there are more than a few people who will miss you and what you contributed to us as children, helping to make science cool.
