Running OS X on a PC? It might be true
At this point most of you should know that you can run Windows on your Intel-based Mac using a couple of tools. With either Apple’s own
Boot Camp or SWSoft’s Parallels software you can infect your Mac with the scourge of creation that is Windows. For some of you, I know that some apps are Windows-only and you have to have them for work (although for you own home usage I encourage you to find alternatives for every Windows-specific app you have), forcing you to install the dreaded Redmond plague on your shiny new Macs.
But what if someone wanted to do the unthinkable? What is someone wanted to grace a PC with the presence of OS X? Sacrilege, you say? I’m not sure if I agree, but it is an interesting proposal.
VMWare has been working on a solution for this problem even though Apple has done everything in their power to prevent OS X from being placed on PCs. And now it looks as if the guys behind Parallels (recently revealed as a small part of a larger virtualization company, SWSoft) have been working on a product to bring the glorious Aqua interface of OS X to a PC near you.
I’m all for it. The more people that get exposure to OS X, the more potential Mac users there are. I know it would be cheaper to have a PC with OS X installed than just buying a Mac but the hardware is so much cheaper in PCs. People will see what could be if they were to run OS X on a Mac and want to switch. I’m not sure why Apple is so against licensing their operating system to PC vendors, but to me it seems like a golden opportunity to pick up a few new Mac buyers along the way. And if nothing else to sell a few more copies of OS X. Anything that makes money doesn’t sound like a bad idea to me.
